Who, Why and How exiled: Moved from Uzbekistan to Russia in July 2009 (ECHR, 2012).
Stage 1 details (accusations/ charges/ Interpol notice/ extradition requests): Charged in absentia on 22 February 2010 by the Uzbek authorities with participation in an extremist religious organisation. His arrest was ordered and he was placed on the wanted persons list. (ECHR, 2012)
Stage 2 details (arrest/ detention/ extradition): Arrested on 29 October 2010 by Russian authorities. Uzbek authorities confirmed their request for his extradition. Detained pending extradition. Released in April 2011 as maximum detention period had expired. The Russian courts accepted his appeals against his extradition on the grounds that he was likely to be ill-treated. (ECHR, 2012)
Legal status (refugee/ asylum seeker/ resident): Applied for political asylum in December 2010, which was repeatedly denied. Applied for temporary asylum in February 2011, which was still pending in July 2012. (ECHR, 2012)
Current status: Assumed to still be residing in Russia after the court refused to extradite him back to Uzbekistan. It is believed that has received asylum in Russia (Новый день, 2014).
