Who, Why and How exiled: Former minister-consul at the Turkmenistan embassy in Washington DC (RFE/RL, 2001). On 13 March 2005, announced he was joining the People's Democratic Movement of Turkmenistan, after being granted political asylum in the US (IWPR, 2005).
Stage 1 details (accusations/ charges/ Interpol notice/ extradition requests): Following Annaberdyyev's switch in allegiance, President Niazov began a purge of high level cabinet members, whom he believed had failed to prevent the growth in opposition ideology (IWPR, 2005).
