Musayev, Alnur
Who, Why and How exiled: Musayev is a former chairman of the Kazakh National Security Committee - he was appointed to the position twice in 1997 and 1999 (Lenta. ru, n.d).
Stage 1 details (accusations/ charges/ Interpol notice/ extradition requests): Musayev is supposed to have tight connections to Rakhat Aliyev and has supposedly assisted him in the abduction and killing of two bank managers in the year 2007 (Dell, J., 2015). Musayev has been on the wanted list since 2007 (Interfax, 2014).
Stage 2 details (arrest/ detention/ extradition): Kazakh authorities have charged that Mr. Aliyev abducted two bank managers from Nurbank, a bank under his control plagued by financial irregularities, and then threatened to shoot them if they did not sign over assets (The Washington Times, 2008). The bankers were found dead early in 2007 (Dell, J., 2015). He was also accused together with Rahat Aliyev of ordering the killing of the Kazakh opposition politician Altynbek Sarsenbayev (Interfax, 2014).
Stage 3 details (attack/ abduction/ rendition/ torture/ assassination/ death): In 2008, in Vienna he was attacked by four armed men who alleged were sent by Nazarbayev to kidnap him (The Washington Times, 2008).
Other actions during Stages 1–3 (dispossession/ overseas assets frozen/ intimidation/ action against associates/ …): Regarding the accusations of kidnapping and murdering the two bankers, in cooperation with Aliyev, Musayev has been acquitted by a court in Vienna in July 2015 (Vienna.online, 2015; tengrinews, 2015; Dell, J., 2015).
Current status: Acquitted of the charges of kidnapping and murdering the two bankers in early 2007 (Vienna.online, 2015; tengrinews, 2015; Dell, J., 2015). He is currently living in exile, in Vienna (Interfax, 2014).
