Sharipov, Karomat
Who, Why and How exiled: Head of the Tajik Labour Migrants Association, based in Russia. Karimov claims he never became a citizen of Tajikistan when the former USSR broke up and instead claimed he is a citizen of Russia, having obtained citizenship in 1993, after serving in both the army of the USSR and the Russian Federation (RFE/RL, 2017; Tajikistan News Asia-Plus, 2017).
Stage 1 details (accusations/ charges/ Interpol notice/ extradition requests): Following a brawl at a Moscow mall between Tajik migrants and security officials in September 2017, Sharipov had his passport confiscated by FSB agents who claimed it was fake (Ferghana News, 2017). On the 30th November, it was ruled by the Lyubertsy Court that the FSB was right to take his passport and that he should be deported (RFE/RL, 2017).
Stage 2 details (arrest/ detention/ extradition): Karimov was detained in the Yegoryvesk District of Moscow, until a Court of Appeal upheld the decision to detain and deport him on the 12th December (RFE/RL, 2017; Tajikistan News Asia-Plus, 2017).
Stage 3 details (attack/ abduction/ rendition/ torture/ assassination/ death): After spending time in the detention center , Sharipov was formerly deported, arriving in the Tajik city of Kulob at 3am on the 13th December (RFE/RL, 2017; Tajikistan News Asia-Plus, 2017).
Current status: Sharipov appeared in Dushanbe on 19th December, claiming that he was perfectly okay and that he would continue to fight for the rights of Tajik Migrants living in Russia (Fergana News, 2017). Sharipov complained at court in Tajikistan that his deportation to Tajikistan had taken place under the false information, given by the Tajik ambassador, he had Tajik citizenship. Sharipov claims he had none but the Russian one, and that the Tajik ambassador has been pressured to issue a false certificate in order to be able to remove him from Russia and his position in the Tajik Labour migrants organisation (ASIA-Plus,25 мая, 2018). This has been declined, against which Sharipov filed a complaint. (ASIA-Plus, 2 июля, 2018). He even appealed to Vladimir Putin in a You-tube video to help him return to Russia (ASIA-Plus, 21 ноября, 2018).
