He was removed from an aeroplane due to depart from St Peterburg to Turkey on 20 November, 2017, and subsequently extradited to Tajikistan, possibly via Iran (Akhbor, 2017).

On 31 May 2017, the 66-year-old was sentenced to 25 years in prison for "provoking national, racial, religious and religious hatred", "betraying the state" and "public invitation to change the constitutional order" ( Akhbor, 2018).
