Who, Why and How exiled:

Botagoz Jardemalie is a former lawyer for Kazakhstan’s BTA Bank. In November 2005, she was hired as managing director at BTA Bank in Almaty, Kazakhstan, and in October 2008 she became a member of BTA’s Management Board.

Between 2014 and 2015 she was subject to surveillance while residing in Brussels (Le soir, 2019).

Authorities in Kazakhstan asked twice her extradition from Belgium and judicial cooperation with ministry of justice in Brussels (Le soir, 2019). In 2019, the Ministry of Justice in Belgium, agreed to conduct a raid in the apartment of Botagoz in Brussels (Open Dialogue, 2019).

In 2009, Jardemalie resigned from all her positions in BTA, and fled the country (Новая Газета, 2017).

Jardemalie is charged with participation in the fraud of Mukhtar Ablyazov (Polimedia, 2020).
